The Ultimate Hospital Bag Checklist (From a Mom Who’s Done It Twice)

I am typically not a procrastinator… but when it came to packing my hospital bag with my second baby, I just couldn’t get it together 🙃

Meanwhile, with my first? I swear I could’ve gone into labor at 20 weeks and been fully prepared. That bag was packed, zipped, and sitting by the door early.

So if you’re somewhere between “overprepared” and “haven’t even started yet,” this is for you!

This is a simple, realistic hospital bag checklist—nothing overwhelming, just the things you’ll actually use and be glad you brought.

When Should You Pack Your Hospital Bag?

Most moms aim to have their hospital bag ready by 34–36 weeks.

If you know you may have a longer hospital stay, you may want to pack a little extra.

What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag

MOM:

BABY:

  • Newborn outfits (3)
  • Going home outfit
  • Socks
  • Hat
  • Pacifier
  • Swaddle
  • Announcement accessories for photos
  • Baby book
  • Car seat (installed and ready to go!)

👉 Tip: You can have the hospital staff put your baby’s footprint straight into the baby book. Such a special detail you won’t want to forget.

A Few Honest Thoughts From a Mom

You don’t need to overpack. You really don’t. The goal isn’t to bring your entire house—it’s to have what makes you feel comfortable, clean, and a little more like yourself.

Whether your bag is packed weeks in advance or thrown together the night before, you’re going to be just fine 🤍

This season is a lot—but it’s also really special. And having your hospital bag ready is one small way to feel a little more prepared walking into it.
